The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms covering Calne and the wider Wiltshire area on Thursday 31st July.

The warning is in place from 10am to 9pm, with forecasters warning of heavy downpours, hail, and lightning, which could cause disruption throughout the day.

"Thunderstorms and heavy showers are expected to develop during Thursday morning and through the afternoon," the Met Office said.

"These could produce torrential downpours in a few places with as much as 25-35mm of rain falling within an hour and perhaps 60mm within 2 hours."

The warning also highlights the risk of spray and surface water flooding, which could impact travel, as well as possible power cuts in some areas.

The public is advised to take care when travelling, monitor weather updates, and avoid flooded roads.

Frequent lightning strikes and hail are also possible, with conditions expected to ease by Thursday evening.
