Tesco has submitted plans to install new signage at its Beversbrook Road store as Lidl prepares to open on the opposite side of the road.

Tesco has applied to Wiltshire Council for permission to add a totem sign, a promotional banner and two way-finder signs around the site, including close to Oxford Road.

Planning documents state the signage would welcome customers and help direct them towards parking areas and the petrol station.

The application comes ahead of the opening of Lidl’s purpose-built store across the road, following a development process that has taken several years from planning approval through to construction.

Lidl has confirmed its new Oxford Road branch will open on Thursday, 19th February, with the community invited to attend launch events from 8am.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark the opening, led by the town’s mayor, Cllr Ian Thorn, alongside players from Calne Town Youth Football Club.

Wiltshire Council is expected to determine Tesco’s application by 23rd March.
