A teenager who stabbed a man with a hunting knife in Calne, leaving him with permanent injuries, has been jailed for more than four years.

Joseph Browne, 19, of Braemor Road, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court to four years and two months in prison after being found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm. He was also given a further 20-month sentence for possession of a knife.

The attack took place on 12 November 2018 in the car park of Bremhill View Social Club. The court heard Browne stabbed Cameron Tait in the abdomen with a 15cm hunting knife.

Mr Tait spent five months in hospital following the assault and was left with lasting injuries and scarring.

Detective Inspector Nick Mawson, of Wiltshire Police, described the incident as a “shocking crime”, telling the court that Browne failed to take responsibility for his actions.

He said Browne initially denied taking the knife to the scene and later disposed of both the weapon and his outer clothing in an attempt to avoid being linked to the attack.
