Revised plans have been submitted for a proposed development of up to 170 homes and a new medical centre on land at Wenhill, Calne, following concerns raised during the initial consultation process.

Developer CG Fry and Son Ltd has lodged updated drawings and supporting documents with Wiltshire Council in connection with its outline planning application for land accessed from the A3102 Silver Street.

The original proposal, first reported by Calne News in July 2025, includes housing, a serviced plot for a new medical centre, areas of public open space and associated infrastructure. The delivery of the medical centre remains dependent on securing funding from the NHS Integrated Care Board and is outside the direct control of the developer.

According to the applicant, the revised plans respond to comments from Wiltshire Council officers, statutory consultees and Calne Town Council.

Key changes include adjustments to the layout along the western boundary of the site, where an internal road and footpath have been moved further away from existing homes to allow for additional landscaping and screening. As a result, two homes have been removed from this area to soften the impact of the development.

Elsewhere on the site, two flats over garages have been introduced near a small area of public open space to overlook a proposed orchard, replacing the homes removed from the western edge.

The internal road layout has also been amended, with part of the main spine road widened to accommodate a circular bus route and bus stops, while additional street parking and tree planting are proposed along the northern section of the development.

In response to earlier feedback, the plans now identify a dedicated informal play area, positioned to benefit from natural surveillance from nearby homes, and changes have been made to protect existing trees and wildlife corridors.

Updated technical reports have also been submitted, covering traffic, air quality, ecology, drainage, landscape impact and heritage, alongside revised masterplans for the site.

Concerns about traffic on Silver Street, the impact on wildlife, and the scale of the development were raised previously by residents and Calne Town Council. When the proposals were first made public, a petition opposing the development was launched by local resident Deidre Airey, attracting more than 1,400 signatures.

Wiltshire Council has now opened a re-consultation on the revised plans, giving residents and stakeholders the opportunity to review the changes and submit further comments.

The application reference remains PL/2025/06250, and full details can be viewed via the Wiltshire Council planning portal.
