Calne Town Council will meet this week to set the town’s budget and precept for the 2026/27 financial year.
The meeting is scheduled for 7pm on Wednesday, 10th December, at Calne Town Hall.
Councillors will consider recommendations from the Finance Working Group, including an 11% rise in the Band D council tax contribution, taking the annual cost to £288.81. The proposed precept requirement is £1,934,744.
According to the budget papers, the increase is intended to support a range of service improvements, community initiatives and investment projects. Planned funding includes:

Governance and Elections - building reserves, councillor training, and introducing live-streamed meetings

Communications - a new accessible website and improved public outreach

Staffing - new roles, staff health checks, and an operational review

Community - expanded recreation ground events and increased grants for local groups

Sustainability - a solar battery project expected to save around £5,000 a year, along with upgraded grounds equipment
