THE residents of Kingston House in Calne were delighted to be visited by some feathery friends earlier this month.

The home in Derry Hill, which specialises in residential and dementia care, opened its doors to some stunning wildlife, enabling residents to experience first hand some beautiful birds of prey including Doris the buzzard and Donald the owl from the Birds of Prey Trust.

One resident, Phyllis pictured here with Chester, a one winged kestrel, commented: "My favourite was the owl – it just looked pristine and was very pretty!”

Catherine Beswick, home manager, said: “The benefits of interacting with animals are well documented, and we were delighted to welcome these beautiful creatures into our home. It is fantastic to see our residents enjoying that connection and have a sense of awe when getting up and close with such special animals.”

Kingston House is operated as a not-for-profit home as part of top-rated charity, Greensleeves Care.

You don't have to be a resident at the home to join in the many fabulous activities and fun they have there - Kingston House also gives older people in the local community the opportunity to join in the fun with 'Activities and Lunch' mornings.

Catherine added: “We’re always excited to have neighbours and visitors joining us. Our morning Activities & Lunch are a great way to get out of the house, enjoy the company of others while getting that all-important stimulation.

"Sometimes it’ll be chair-based exercises, painting, or quizzes and occasionally we get very special visitors like wildlife. It all contributes to making our residents’ and visitors’ days more fulfilled and happy.”
