Update- POLICE have said they have now identified the men they wanted to speak to in relation to an incident of animal cruelty on a dog near Calne.

A member of the public reported the incident to the police after they saw two men holding down a dog and beating it at about 3.30pm on Boxing Day, 26th December. The men were on the A4 between Beckhampton and Calne.

When challenged, the men claimed their dog was ‘acting up’.

Police say they are keen to identify the two people pictured and are urging anyone with information, including dash cam footage, to get in touch.

PC Laura Hughes said: “We take reports of this nature extremely seriously and are keen to speak to the two men involved and check on the welfare of the dog.”
