CALNE Police have reassured parents after children reported a concerning interaction with an unknown adult in Castlefields Park, Calne.

The issue came to light after children told adults that they had spoken to and played near a man in the park after school. The children said the man encouraged them to interact with him and talked about activities in the park, which raised concerns among parents and carers. The children’s accounts were passed on to Wiltshire Police.

Officers attended the area and spoke with the individual involved. Police have confirmed that no crime has been reported.

In a statement, PCSO Mark Cook said: “We have received a report of a male acting suspiciously in Castlefields Park. Whilst no crime has been reported, officers have attended and spoken with the individual, and appropriate advice has been given.

“We would encourage parents and carers to speak with children about staying safe when out and about and the importance of not talking to strangers."

Police stressed there is no suggestion of criminal behaviour at this stage but said it was right that the concerns were reported and checked.

Parents are being reminded to talk to children about personal safety, including staying with friends, not engaging with strangers, and telling a trusted adult if anything makes them feel uncomfortable.

Anyone with concerns is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.
