AN Outline planning application has been submitted to Wiltshire Council for new homes and employment land at Penn Hill in Calne.

The application, submitted by Castlewood Commercial Properties, outlines plans to build 205 new homes and 0.75ha of employment land and ancillary uses, open space, vehicular and pedestrian accesses, landscaping, drainage measures and other associated works including the demolition of existing commercial units and structre at the site in Penn Hill.

No details regarding the size of homes is noted on the application but a mix of sizes will result in the provision of an additional 143 bedrooms on the site with a mixture of market housing and social housing.

The reaction to the plans has sparked anger among some residents with many posts on social media pointing out that Calne lacks the infrustructure necessary to keep building so many homes, with doctors and dentists in the town already visibly struggling.

One resident, Nicola Stevens, echoed the comments from many others saying: 'Where will they build next! Soon we’ll have no green land left and all wild life extinct . We don’t have the infrastructure to cope with anymore houses, doctors stretched to limit you can’t get an appointment for weeks , dentists the same. Schools have long waiting lists with no space and not to mention nowhere for youngsters to let off steam . Grid lock one way through town and constant road works that take months to complete.'
