Plans to replace four existing houses with nine new homes on Dixon Way have been officially abandoned by Green Square Accord, a not-for-profit social housing provider.
In July this year, Green Square Accord held a public consultation event outlining their plans to build nine more energy efficient homes using modern methods of construction, providing a mix of two and three-bedroom properties.
However, after a comprehensive review of the updated plans and the associated costs, Green Square have concluded that moving forward was not feasible and have announced they won't be going ahead with the plans as they have determined the proposed project was not “financially viable” given current funding constraints.
“We have been clear during our consultation that these proposals were dependent on planning permission, grant funding, and internal approvals,” a spokesperson for Green Square Accord explained.
“After carefully reviewing the proposals, considering the feedback and information we have gathered over the last few months, it has become clear the plans are not financially viable within our current funding constraints.”
“We appreciate this news may be disappointing, and we are sorry that we have not been able to move the plans forward as we would have liked,” the spokesperson added.
“I want to reassure you that we assess all our homes to inform our long-term investment and improvements to ensure they are maintained to the right standard for our customers."
Despite the cancellation of the Dixon Way project, Green Square Accord say they will continue to engage with the community as they explore future housing development opportunities that align with their financial and operational capabilities.
