A new cafe due to open soon in Wood Street has already attracted attention - and plenty of conversation - thanks to its bold choice of pink paint.
The Pink Café is a sister company to The Best Ever Brownie Company. Many residents will already know the brand for its popular mail-order brownies and regular pop-up shops at the Tesco Showroom in Calne as well as their beautifully quaint Barn Cafe based in Foxham.
Decorators have been busy this week transforming the new premises, and the pink exterior has certainly caught people’s eyes. While a few passers-by have commented that the colour may not be in keeping with Calne’s traditional heritage tones, owner Solance Poole says most of the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive.
“It’s not really been a complaint - just a couple of people saying it’s not a heritage colour,” she said. “But we’ve had so much positive feedback. So many people have said they’re really excited to visit and they love the pink.”
“For us, pink is more of a mood than just a colour,” she added. “We wanted something bright and welcoming - that’s exactly what we want the café to be.”
When it opens, The Pink Café will serve cakes, pastries, milkshakes, teas and coffees, along with brownies from The Best Ever Brownie Company. Pancakes and waffles are also planned for the menu.
An official opening date has not yet been confirmed, but updates will be shared on the café’s Instagram page.
