THE A342 Old Derry Road has reopened following a serious rtc which has left a motorcyclist in a serious condition.

Police closed the road yesterday (3/3) after a two vehicle collision just after 2pm which involved a Mercedes and a motorbike.

Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed at the scene and took the motorcyclist, a man in his 60's to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. Police say the occupants of the car weren't injured in the crash.

The road was closed between the A4 London Road and Church Road in Derry Hill until the early hours of this morning to allow the serious collision unit to carry out their investigations.

Comments on social media following the accident have raised the suggestion that the incident happened on a steep bend in the road close to where a large pothole has appeared although nothing has been confirmed or suggested as to the cause of the collision by police yet.

Any who may have witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage, should call the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01225 694597 and quote log number 144 of 3 March.
