Motorcyclists joined the funeral cortège of former Calne Town Mayor, Howard Marshall today (20/9), as it passed through the town centre on his final journey.

Howard Marshall was Calne Town Mayor in 2009 and 2015 and former Town Councillor and a Wiltshire Councillor. He was also president of the local Rotary Club and known for his work with many local community groups such as the skate park, the Calne Bike Meet and setting up the Calne in Tune charity. A keen musician, Howard would often join in with live music opportunities during community events.

A much loved dad, stepdad, grandad, husband and uncle, Howard passed away peacefully at home on the 3rd September following a long battle with prostate cancer. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month a time when blue is worn to raise awareness of the disease - the family requested those attending the funeral to wear blue.

Just after 12pm, the cortège drove along The Strand and past Bank House where Calne Town Councillors and employess gathered outside to pay their respects. It then continued up to the New Road roundabout and turned back into town passing the Town Hall before continuing on to North Wilts Crematorium.

A JustGiving page has been set up by Howard's daughter in his memory, to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK. If you would like to donate you can do so here: JustGiving - Fundraising in memory of Howard Marshall
