THE second Marden Valley Spring Equinox Festival will take place this Saturday (16/3) at Marden House and Castlefields Park.

Calne Town Mayor, Robert MacNaughton, is encouraging residents to join in the festivites and the river blessing again this year, following the successful inaugral event in 2023.

The festival is hosted by the Friends of Marden Valley and focuses on being part of the solution to river pollution.

Inside Marden House there activities for children from 1pm where younger visitors will  have the opportunity to build their own mini raft to enter in a river boat race.

The highlight of the celebrations will be the blessing of the River Marden.

The Bishop of Ramsbury, Andrew Rumsey will be joined in the river by Kate Dineen, a Shamanic practioner from Stroud. They will bless the river and thank it for bringing us clean water over the millenia. Those attending will have the oppotunity to make their own blessing for the river, as flowers are passed amongst the crowd to then be placed on a raft as a gift to the river.

Other attractions include Japanese Drummers following the river blessing and later Morris Dancers on The Wharf - refreshments are available. The event runs from 11.30am to 3pm on Saturday 16th March.
