Residents in the Calne Central ward went to the polls yesterday, Thursday, 22nd January, to elect a new representative to Calne Town Council following the resignation of Robert MacNaughton.

Four candidates stood in the by-election: Eliot Hall (Conservative Party), Jess Preston-Staples (Labour Party), Paul Logan (Reform UK) and Adam Summers (Liberal Democrats).

Adam Summers was declared the winner, receiving 490 votes, ahead of Paul Logan 222, Eliot Hall 135 and Jess Staples-Preston 41.

Mr Summers, who has lived in Calne all his life and works caring for people with dementia, said his local knowledge gives him a strong understanding of residents’ needs.

He added: “Calne is a wonderful place to live and I am ready to work hard to make it even better. I have already begun the work – from reporting potholes and broken signs, to supporting the ongoing work of the Town Council on fixing our play parks.”
