Lidl has submitted a request to Wiltshire Council for amendments to its plans for the new store in Calne.

In February, the council approved proposals for a 2,280 sq m supermarket on land east of Oxford Road – the second time planning permission had been granted. The first approval, in 2023, was overturned following a challenge from rival chain Tesco.

The latest request from Lidl describes the adjustments as “modest alterations.” The company is asking to slightly expand the maximum net sales area to 1,516 sq m – an increase of 102 sq m – which it says will allow for wider aisles and a better shopping experience.

As part of the changes, Lidl is also proposing to reduce car parking spaces from 130 to 122, while introducing dedicated spaces for motorcycles.

Wiltshire Council is expected to reach a decision on the revised plans by December 1st.
