Residents at Kingston House care home in Calne marked the approach to Christmas with a series of events that included live music, trips out into the town and a Christmas party with staff and families.

Among the activities was a visit from members of U3A Devizes, who performed Christmas carols using hand bells. Residents were invited to take part during the performance, with several joining in to play the instruments.

Residents also went out on a minibus trip around Calne to see the town’s Christmas lights, an evening staff said was particularly enjoyed.

Back at the home, celebrations continued with a Christmas party featuring live entertainment, with residents singing along to familiar festive songs and sharing mince pies and refreshments. Some residents were also joined on the dancefloor by members of staff.

The home was decorated for the season in the lead-up to Christmas, with displays created by residents and staff, including a shared advent calendar and a Christmas tree made from residents’ handprints.

Mandy Gilder, activities coordinator at Kingston House, said the focus had been on helping residents feel involved and included during the festive period.

“Christmas is important to many of our residents and their families,” she said. “We wanted to make sure everyone had the chance to enjoy it in a way that felt personal and familiar.”

Festivities will continue on Christmas Day, when residents will sit down together for a traditional Christmas lunch and receive visits from Father Christmas.

Kingston House is a care home in Calne run by not-for-profit provider Greensleeves Care.
