An election has been called to fill one of two vacant seats on Calne Town Council following recent resignations.

The poll will take place on Thursday 22nd January 2026 for one councillor in the Calne Central Ward, following the resignation of Cllr Robert MacNaughton in November.

Four candidates are standing in the election:

  • Eliot Nathan Hall (Conservative Party)

  • Paul Allen Logan (Reform UK)

  • Jess Staples-Preston (Labour Party)

  • Adam John Summers (Liberal Democrats)

Meanwhile, Calne Town Council has confirmed that the second vacancy, left by the resignation of Cllr Orrey Pike in the Chilvester & Abberd Ward, will be filled by co-option rather than a public election.

Wiltshire Council confirmed on 22nd December 2025 that fewer than ten residents requested an election for the seat. Because fewer than ten residents requested an election, the council will fill the vacancy by co-option - a process that allows councillors to appoint a new member rather than hold a public vote.

Residents who meet the eligibility criteria are invited to apply in writing, including a short personal statement, by Wednesday 14th January 2026. Applications should be sent to the Director of Council Services, Bank House, The Strand, Calne, SN11 0EN, or by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. The co-option will take place at Full Council on Monday 26th January 2026 at 7pm, where applicants must attend and will have the opportunity to address councillors.

Calne Town Council has 19 councillors across four wards, and council officers are encouraging interested residents to attend meetings or speak informally with Alison Robinson, Director of Council Services, to learn more about the role.

For more information, residents can contact the council on 01249 814000.
