THERE are just two weeks left to make your opinion count on the Calne Community Neighbourhood Plan.

The Calne Community Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group has been working on the draft plan for two years, during which time they have held several public consultations, and now the group would value your input before the plan goes forward.

Sadly, the group has found that many residents believe the plan isn't worth having if it can't stop further housing being built in Calne. Although more housing is inevitable over the coming years, the plan addresses important ways in which development can be managed to ensure we retain the features of the town we are proud of and also to manage additional traffic congestion and pollution.

Celia Stevens, a member of the steering group told us: "We want the views of as many people who live or work in the area as possible so, within the constraints we have on what can be included, it reflects the priorities of the community.

"Unfortunately we can't stop housing, but there are lots of important policies in the plan that we want people in Calne to give us their views on.

"A few key things are: the the protection of a long list of green spaces in and around the town; policies on building design to be appropriate to the area; promoting energy efficient houses; promoting tree planting; where possible, addressing the traffic congestion that would follow from further housing by providing safe walking and cycling routes; protecting existing community facilities and looking to maintain the town centre as an economic and social hub for the area.

"This is an important policy document and we want Calne people to have their say"

Residents have until midnight on 22nd March to read the draft plan and complete a survey.
