Seven months after opening the doors to its new premises on Calne High Street, Marden Community Hub says it is feeling “incredibly grateful” for the support that has helped them through a lively first chapter.
The volunteer-run Hub, which offers a welcoming space for local residents to meet, chat, take part in activities and access support, has experienced its fair share of “ups and downs” since relocating, but staff say the community spirit around the venture has never been stronger.
“We’re so lucky to now have regular users who come in every day we’re open, plus others who join us several times a week,” Trustee, Carol Lavery said. “Thank you all.”
One of the Hub’s most popular events has been its monthly bingo night, which continues to draw a cheerful crowd.
“Yes, we really do play bingo,” laughed the team. “But my goodness, you cheer us all up - there’s always so much laughter. We just hope someone has had a good win on a scratch card!”
As the festive season approaches, the Hub has launched a Christmas raffle packed with prizes.
1st prize:
A Christmas Day Hamper worth around £100, including:
-
Turkey crown (4–6 servings, frozen)
-
Gammon joint
-
Pigs in blankets
-
Stuffing, cranberry sauce & gravy granules
-
Christmas pudding & mince pies
-
Cheese and biscuits
-
Sweet treats
-
Two bottles of wine
…and plenty more festive essentials.
2nd prize: A Nellie Hearn signed limited-edition print
3rd prize: A minimum of three bottles of wine or spirits
Plus many more prizes donated by supporters.
Raffle tickets are £2 each and available from Marden Community Hub, 27 High Street, Calne.
The draw will take place on Thursday 12th December during the Christmas bingo night.
“If you fancy the chance of sorting your Christmas dinner for £2, pop in for a ticket,” the team said.
The Hub will also host a Christmas dinner on Saturday 20th December at midday.
The meal will include a choice of turkey, beef or gammon, all the trimmings, Christmas pudding or mince pie with cream, or Sherry trifle. A Buck’s Fizz, festive crackers and (hopefully) a small gift for everyone are included.
Because the Hub no longer receives the level of donations it once did, there will be a £12 charge, with a £6 deposit payable when booking.
Spaces are very limited - most were snapped up as soon as the event was announced - so anyone interested is encouraged to book quickly.
To round off the message, the Hub shared a heartfelt note of appreciation:
“A big thank you to the trustees and volunteers who give their time completely free for the benefit of the community.”
Marden Community Hub is open several days a week and welcomes anyone looking for company, support, or a friendly place to drop in.
