CALNE'S Christmas lights were officially turned on yesterday marking the finale to a day of Christmas celebrations in the town.

Festive tunes rang out around the town centre and there was plenty to see and do with craft stalls and community stalls lining Phelps Parade and the High Street.

A living Nativity scene by the town's Christmas tree led the way to Bank Row where you could find food and drink vendors and further down Farms 2Ewe had bought a little donkey, sheep and some pygmy goats all sporting their Christmas jumpers.

In the Town Hall there were more craft stalls and refreshments. The beautiful Christmas tree in the foyer, had been turned into a Gift tree, visitors were invited to select a tag from the tree which had details of a local disadvantaged child in order to be then buy the child a gift which could be dropped off before 16th December.

Amongst the crowds, street entertainers were keeping the festive cheer going, Calne News met a friendly snowball who demanded a hug and we were later invited to honk a horn on a Pramdemonium !

Local vocal group Harmonics were performing a selection of Christmas tunes on the Eartunes Radio stage outside the Town Hall.

And then, it was time for the Light Parade. This year, the parade was particularly well attended - Calne Town Mayor Jon Fisher, with his mayoral consort, Tara, followed by Calne Lions Santa's sleigh led the parade with hundreds of schools and community groups taking part.

A short time later, the Mayor and his consort took to the stage to wish everyone a safe and happy festive season before the lights were officially switched on for 2024.
