The  17-year-old boy charged with the murder of Ellie Gould on Friday,  has today appeared in Bristol Crown Court.

calne news ellie gould murder churchThe male, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody and a pre-trial hearing has been set for June 6.

A provisional trial date has been set for October 28 at Bristol Crown Court.

As the town continues to come to terms with the shock events of the last few days, St Mary's Church has openend it's doors to residents wishing to pay tribute. A message on social media read:

'After the devastating news of the death of Ellie Gould last Friday, St Mary's church, Calne continues to be open for all those who want to light a candle and pray for Ellie and her family and friends.

The church is open today (Thursday) 10am until 5pm and tomorrow (Friday) from 10am until 5pm and Saturday from 10am until 4pm when we will open a Book of Condolence for people to write messages which will be passed on to Ellie's family.'

The boy was arrested on Friday afternoon following the discovery of Ellie Gould’s body at her home in Springfield Drive. Police have confirmed that Ellie died as a result of stab wounds.

Paramedics attending the scene had fought to save Ellie but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Ambulance staff called police to the scene at approximately 3.15pm and shortly afterwards a 17 year old boy was arrested in the Derry Hill area.
