A planning application has been submitted by Calibre Homes (SW) Ltd which proposes to demolish the post office and village shop in Derry Hill and adjoining building.
The building at 48-49 Church Road in Derry Hill would be replaced by two homes and a new village shop which the application describes as 'more modern'.
The plans show the two new homes would have their own driveway/vehicle entrance and the new shop would have it's own parking area. On the application Calibre Homes say: “This will create a sense of belonging for all new buildings and help the village shop generate its own important character within the site, rather than the current appearance which is as an incongruous afterthought bolt-on to a dwelling, looking inappropriate and out of place along the current street scene.”
At a community drop-in session held last month it was noted by residents that the continued use of a post office was important to the village. The plans show the new village shop would be of a similar size and offer the same services.
