THE former Co-op site orignally sold to Hawkfield Homes, who had hoped to develop the site into residential apartments has been re-sold to a company specialising in dementia care.

Hawkfield Homes Ltd first looked at the site in October 2021 and commissioned a design team. Their plans for the development included 26 apartments, townhouses and a commercial unit.

The plans were met with 'significant objection from stakeholders' and despite months of endeavours to get them cleared by Wiltshire Council, no resolution could be found.

In July, we reported that the site was back on the market with an agreed sale imminent. The sale has now been completed and the new owners have been confirmed as Cedar Care Homes.

Cedar Care Homes are a family business with an impressive portfolio of 18 homes across the UK including one near Malmesbury, Wiltshire. They predominantly cater for residents who require general nursing care, dementia nursing care, and complex dementia care. Their newest purpose built homes are Bristol-based Dearbourne Manor and Arbour Walk, both of which have won awards for their design.

Subject to planning approval, Operations Manager, Arjun Desai told us they hope to build a 60-70 bedded Dementia Nursing home on the site. This could create an estimated 80 jobs for nurses, carers, housekeeping, kitchen and administration staff.
