Wiltshire Council has approved a three-year extension for the household recycling centre (HRC) at Lower Compton, following concerns raised by residents.
The decision was taken at this afternoon’s Wiltshire Cabinet meeting and follows recent discussions about the future of the site.

Leader of Wiltshire Council, Ian Thorn said the extension would provide time for a new HRC to be developed in the Royal Wootton Bassett area.
“At this afternoon’s Wiltshire Cabinet meeting we approved an extension to the HRC at Lower Compton of three years,” he said. “This is designed to provide time to open a new HRC in the RWB area.
“I am grateful for Hills Waste Solutions’ willingness to agree a new approach which has reduced the costs of the two HRCs and provides greater flexibility.”
Cllr Thorn said the council was aware of the strength of feeling locally. “Of course we are aware of the high level of concern and I am pleased that we have been able to respond to residents,” he added.
