CALNE Community Christmas is back again for 2023 and organisers are calling on residents and businesses for donations to help them spread a little Christmas cheer.

Now in its 10th year,  Community Christmas - Calne was originally the result of an idea from Karen Lewis' daughter Charlie who wanted to do something for the more vulnerable residents of our town back in 2013.

The initiative has grown year by year and now a full team of helpers are involved, including Karen's other daughters Sharon, Victoria and Jasmine, all working hard to arrange collections of non-perishable foods, toileteries and toys.

Sharon told us: "Our helpers vary from year to year but Liz Powell, Gemma Godwin-Deveny and Jo Williamson have helped every year for the last few years."

All donations are then wrapped, and packed into hampers and distributed to the elderly, vulnerable and struggling families in the community.

Last year over 70 toys and gifts were wrapped and delivered as well as 34 family hampers, 206 single hampers and some gift vouchers which were bought with the money raised from a raffle.

As well as collecting donations for the hampers, there will be another raffle this year so the group are asking for prize donations.

There are several collection points across town where you are able to drop donations.

Karen added: "We really rely on the kindness and generosity of our community every year to make this happen, so if you can help by making a small donation it will help us make a difference to so many this Christmas."
