MEMBERS of the Calne Men's Shed (It's not just for men!) welcomed the Chief Constable of Wiltshire Police, Catherine Roper, earlier this week to demonstrate their work in tackling loneliness and isolation.

Chief Constable Catherine Roper, her personal assistant and other officers popped in to the Calne Men's Shed on Anchor Road on Wednesday where they spent time chatting to members, learning about the group's current projects and items they have produced in the past.

Chair of Calne Men's Shed, Polly Morrow told us:  "Catherine chatted with everyone in the Shed and she showed a genuine interest in our current projects as well as items we have produced in the past.  More importantly she took time to talk to our members individually acknowledging that we are members of the Shed for camaraderie as well as making things.

"We all enjoyed the time we spent together and one of her team bought an item from our display cabinet. We had tea, cake and interesting conversations and Catherine not only volunteered to do the washing up she insisted on doing it!"

After an hour and a half spent with the members, the group went outside for photographs, Polly added, "there was banter and laughter amongst all of us all through the lighthearted time we spent together".
