Wiltshire Council has announced plans to make changes to the road layout outside Calne Town Hall and The Lansdowne Hotel as part of a wider refurbishment of the traffic lights on Curzon Street.

Under the proposal, the existing bus stop outside the Town Hall would be removed and replaced with a new northbound stop in the layby opposite The Lansdowne Hotel. The current Town Hall layby would instead become a short-stay loading bay, allowing deliveries to nearby businesses.

The council says the changes are designed to improve visibility at the traffic lights and make it safer for buses to stop along the busy stretch of road. The works form part of an upgrade programme for signalised crossings and junctions across Wiltshire, after the Curzon Street/New Street lights were identified as needing refurbishment.

If approved, the new loading bay outside the Town Hall would be restricted to loading only for 30 minutes, with no return within one hour.

Residents can view full details of the proposed changes online at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/troconsultations or in person at Calne Library until 24 November 2025.
