Fundraiser Anita Hodgson will be taking on her latest challenge next month, raising money to support the work at the Royal United Hospital in Bath in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers.
Anita has been fundraising for The Dyson Cancer unit in Bath since her husband was diagnosed with cancer fourteen years ago.
She told us: "My husband was taken to RUH Bath as an emergency and diagnosed with cancer. He was treated at the RUH initially and then had surgery at Southmead Hospital in Bristol before his long-term care was transferred back to Bath." He remains well but continues to have yearly checks at Bath.
The Dyson Cancer Centre at the RUH officially opened its doors in April this year and includes the RUH’s oncology, chemotherapy and radiotherapy services, a 22-bed inpatient ward and dedicated pharmacy, as well as a research team and nuclear medicine and physics teams.
Serving more than half a million people in the South West, the centre aims to bring many of the RUH’s cancer services under one roof.
In her latest bid to raise vital funds to ensure the new Dyson Cancer Unit can continue the incredible work they do, Anita is taking on the Dalai Lama Himalayan Trek which starts on 2nd November. The trek begins in Dharamsala, the home of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Community, and ends in Agra, home of the Taj Mahal.
Anita has funded the trip herself and is hoping to raise as much money along the way as possible. She added, "This trek will take me outside of my comfort zone and challenge me from day one, but every penny raised in sponsorship will go to the hospital."
