AS the works to re-open the High Street in Calne near completion, Wiltshire Council has outlined their Experimental Orders for the road under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

Disabled parking has moved from the south side of The Square/Wood Street at its junction with High Street to the eastern side of Wood Street from its junction with Oxford Street/North Street.

Loading Goods vehicles will be permitted at all times on the northern side of A4 Curzon Street from its junction with High Street.

There will be a no waiting at any time on both sides of High Street – from its junction with Wood Street to its junction with A4 Curzon Street.

A one-way traffic system will be in place on High Street from its junction with Wood Street to its junction with the A4 Curzon Street with direction of permitted travel in a southbound direction from Wood Street to A4 Curzon Street.

No vehicles can enter the High Street from A4 Curzon Street and no vehicles can turn right onto the High Street from the A4 Curzon Street.

A 3 tonnes maximum gross weight limit will be in place on the High Street – from its junction with Wood Street to its junction with A4 Curzon Street and a 20mph speed limit on the complete length.

These Orders will come into force on the 17th February for 18 months and during that time consideration will be given to introducing permanent Orders.

A spokesperson for Calne Town Council told us: "The Town Council’s Planning, Licensing and Highways Consultative Committee has a standing agenda item where feedback is encouraged.

"It is expected that some modification will be made once it is used.   We also encourage feedback on how the wider town centre has been impacted by the changes.

"A resident has raised concern about the width of the relocated disabled parking bays on Wood Street and these have been shared with Wiltshire Council."
