Calne Pocket Park & Community Garden has once again earned national recognition, receiving a prestigious Green Flag Award for the third consecutive year.
The park is one of 2,250 sites across the UK to be honoured with the award in 2025, which serves as the international quality benchmark for parks and green spaces. In Wiltshire, Calne Pocket Park is one of just two community spaces to achieve the accolade this year.
John Boaler, Chairman of Calne Pocket Park, praised the hard work and dedication of the park’s volunteer team.
“The news that the Pocket Park has met the standards required for accreditation is recognition of the hard work and dedication of the team of volunteers who care for the park so that the local people and visitors to the town can enjoy it,” he said.
The community garden has become a cherished green space for the people of Calne—welcoming residents and visitors alike to relax, socialise, and attend free community events.
This summer, the Pocket Park is hosting monthly live music on the first Sunday afternoon of each month (May to September), Chess Days, and two family-friendly events—both offered free of charge thanks to successful grant bids to local charities.
On Monday 28th July at 2pm, the park will welcome back The Last Baguette theatre company for a 50-minute performance of Bin Rat. Then, on Monday 18th August, professional storyteller Michael Loader will lead sessions at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm.
At both events, volunteers will be running a pop-up café, adding to the friendly and festive atmosphere the Pocket Park is known for.
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by Keep Britain Tidy, recognises well-managed parks and green spaces across the UK. It is seen as the gold standard for green spaces that are safe, welcoming, and well maintained.
