The Calne Music and Arts Festival is in full swing, with a busy week of concerts, talks and exhibitions still to come - and plenty of opportunities for visitors to join in the celebrations of local creativity.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.cmaf.org.uk, from Bank House (Monday to Friday, 9.30am–2.30pm), or on the door at Marden House.
Among the highlights is the art exhibition showcasing 260 works by local artists - free to enter - alongside a sculpture show at the Calne Heritage Centre, just across the road from Marden House.
The evening events promise something for every taste, from jazz and chamber music to Calne Choral’s performance and Mozart’s comic opera Cosi fan Tutti. The line-up also includes the ever-popular singing men of The Magnificent AKs and an evening of Argentinian tango.
Daytime attractions include concerts by young music scholars, illustrated talks on The Amazing Wildlife of Calne and The Art of Parisian Nightlife, a trumpet recital, a talk on the Priestley Community Quilt, and a conversation with two local artists hosted by Festival Art Director Genevieve Sioka.
Festival-goers can enjoy refreshments too, with a wine bar open before and during evening events, and tea, coffee, cakes and snacks served at lunchtimes.
Festival Chairman John Boaler said: “We got off to a great start with our Preview Party last Friday, where Will Young formally opened this year’s festival. Will also has an artwork in our exhibition. We’ve had a busy first weekend with a packed house for Saturday’s folk concert. If you’ve never attended the Festival before, I urge you to come and enjoy a performance of real quality at a very affordable price.”
With a lively mix of music, art and community spirit, the Calne Music and Arts Festival continues to be one of the highlights of the town’s cultural calendar - and there’s still time to be part of it.
