Calne’s Mill Race Community Support and Outreach Service, part of Family Action Wiltshire, joined forces with Calne Men’s Shed (It's not just for men) this week to create “bug hotels” for the Mill Race garden.

The day support service, which provides activities and support for adults with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs, offered members the chance to fill their own bug hotel boxes which had been made by members of Calne Men's Shed.

The hotels give insects a safe haven, helping to promote local biodiversity and healthy gardens.

Volunteers from Calne Men’s Shed (It's not just for men), including Secretary Jeff Rawlings and Val, guided participants through the activity.

Calne Men's Shed, a community space open to adults over 18, is known for its welcoming and creative environment. Despite the name, it’s not just for men - women are active members, and anyone is welcome to join. The group also offers emotional and mental health support, social outings, and projects that benefit the wider community.

Family Action Wiltshire praised the collaboration, highlighting the opportunity it gave their group to try something new, have fun, and develop skills. They said: "We extend our sincere gratitude to Calne's Men Shed for their invaluable support in providing these exceptional resources to our customers and look forward to future joint initiatives."
