A Calne man has been handed a community order after admitting making indecent images of children.
Gary Frederick Turney, 64, of Tyning Park, Calne, appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court for sentencing on 5th November 2025. He had earlier indicated guilty pleas to three counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child, contrary to the Protection of Children Act 1978.
According to court records, Turney downloaded 151 illegal images between 21st and 22nd October 2023. This included: 45 Category A images – the most serious category, 53 Category B images and 53 Category C images
Magistrates imposed a two-year community order, requiring Turney to complete 200 hours of unpaid work within 12 months, along with 25 rehabilitation activity days.
He must also sign the Sex Offenders Register for five years, beginning from the date of his guilty pleas on 2nd October 2025. A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was requested but not granted, with the bench finding it “not necessary or proportionate”.
Turney was ordered to pay a £114 victim surcharge plus £85 prosecution costs
He will be supervised by probation until November 2027.
