A Calne man has been jailed for 19 years after admitting a series of sexual offences against a child.

Stuart Miller, 36, of Church Street in Calne, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on 10th February where he pleaded guilty to 14 offences including rape, sexual assault and making indecent images of children.

He was sentenced to a total of 19 years - comprising a custodial term of 14 years and eight months followed by an extended licence period. He was also made subject to a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order and will remain on the sex offenders register for life.

The court heard Miller targeted a teenage girl known to him between October 2019 and September 2023, carrying out repeated sexual assaults and rapes and taking photographs of the abuse.

The offences came to light after the victim disclosed what had happened to a friend in September 2023, prompting a report to police.

Wiltshire Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Team led the inquiry, working with digital forensic specialists to recover indecent images Miller had created involving himself and the victim.

Detective Investigator Francesca Mason said the case had been a “long and traumatic ordeal” for the victim and praised her courage in coming forward. She added that the evidence gathered , including recovered digital material, resulted in a strong case and Miller’s guilty plea.

Police said they hope the outcome will provide some sense of closure as the victim begins to move forward.

Anyone affected by rape, sexual assault or other sexual offences is encouraged to report it to police. Those not ready to do so can seek confidential support through specialist organisations, including the Sexual Assault Referral Centre service in Swindon and Wiltshire run by First Light.
