A Calne family will be taking part in the Frome Running Festival 10K on Sunday (18/8), to raise vital funds and give something back to the charity that helped them during a very difficult time.
Calne Firefighter Dan Brown will be running the 10K alongside his wife, Jasmine and son Hartley in aid of the charity Young Lives vs Cancer.
Little Hartley was diagnosed with Leukemia in April last year, he was treated at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, which meant parents Dan and Jasmine had to stay separately from their daughters and stay in Bristol for 8 months while Hartley received his first course of treatment.
Young Lives vs Cancer provided free accommodation at Sam's House - a home from home for families to stay close to their child when they're having cancer treatment.
Jasmine said: "Young lives funded our accommodation for the duration of this time within Sam’s House and still continue to support us through our social worker. It is a fantastic charity and I am so happy I can give back to a charity that has helped our family so much."
Young Lives vs Cancer say: 'When a child is diagnosed with cancer it threatens everything, for them and their family. At a time when they should be busy being children, enjoying their rollercoaster teenage years or finding their feet at uni, life becomes full of fear. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, of overwhelming money worries, mental health stretched to breaking point, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.
At Young Lives vs Cancer, we get that. We are the charity that helps children and young people (0-25) and their families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them.'
