A Calne couple, who met on a blind date are celebrating 60 years of marriage.

Paul and Sandra Cook, celebrated their Diamond Anniversary on the 24th April and received a special card from King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Sandra was brought up in Calne, her parents were both employed at the famous Harris factory. Paul lived in Bremhill, his father ran a small bakery there. They met on a blind date arranged by Sandra's brother-in-law - and they have been together ever since.

Paul worked as an engineer at Stellex Ltd and then Metron Ltd - later named Calne Welding and then Calne Engineering Ltd., while Sandra worked as a receptionist at Rawlins & Phillips Ltd and later as a caregiver at Marden Court and then Kingston House in Derry Hill.

They have three sons, including twins Adam and Mark - most of us will have met Mark who is currently working as a PCSO in Calne - and another son, Noel.

The couple's marriage has endured for six decades, and they attribute their happiness to a strong underlying friendship and understanding. As Sandra noted, in their generation, marriage was seen as a lifelong commitment, and working through problems was the norm.

The royal recognition of their anniversary was a lovely surprise, especially for Sandra, a lifelong royalist.
