The Priestley Community Quilt, usually to be found at the Calne Heritage Centre, has been making waves at the annual 'Festival of Quilts' at the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre.
Led by Sue Peskett, the quilting project was accepted into Europe's largest and most prestigious quilting and patchwork display.
John Boaler, who last year chaired the Priestley250 committee that organised the town’s many events celebrating the discovery of Oxygen in Calne, visited on Friday and was entranced by the exhibition.
“There were so many beautiful works on display, with such clever designs and intricate handwork. I had not realised how artistic many of the pieces would be - lots would not look out of place in an art gallery. The variety of designs was amazing.

"All the time I was looking out for the Priestley Quilt and came across it being admired by visitors.
Then, as I got closer I saw that it had been shortlisted in the Community Quilt section - up there were the very best 3 or 4 community quilts in the UK.
Everyone who contributed to the making of the Calne Community Quilt should feel very proud; its shortlisting is a real testament to the skills, creativity and imagination of all those involved.”
The Calne Community Quilt's shortlisting is a testament to the skills, creativity, and imagination of its makers. Everyone involved should be incredibly proud of this achievement. The quilt will return to the Calne Heritage Centre, where it will undoubtedly continue to inspire and delight visitors.
