WITH just over 12 weeks to go to the Calne Summer Carnival, Calne Town Council are calling on all clubs, schools, teams, pubs, local businesses, street or group of friends to join in and make this a carnival the town can be proud of.

The Calne Summer Carnival will take place on Saturday 29th June and is one of the biggest events the town council organises as thousands line the streets to watch the procession pass through.

The theme this year is 'Influential People'. Who is your biggest influence? Who is your hero? This is your opportunity to celebrate them and join in the fun.

There is plenty of time to get together and plan your entry and costumes, and play your part in making the carnival a success whilst having a huge amount of fun.

Taking part in the carnival has many benefits - for businesses, clubs and groups, it is a fantastic opportunity to get your name out there. For schools, it is a lovely event for classes to plan together and look forward to,  and for anyone else thinking about joining in - it is a chance to show off, dress up and support our carnival, making it into a procession to be proud of.

Calne Town Council say: "You can’t find 'you' or 'us' in 'carnival', but we would like to help change that.

"We have launched a brand-new competition for walking entries – a decorated barrow, trolley, cart or buggy, pram. We also encourage local businesses to get involved and showcase a tool of your trade."

Prizes will be awarded to winners in the following classes.

Class 1 - Best junior/group entry (under 13)

Class 2 - Best adult group entry

Class 3 - Best Pub, Club or Café entry

Class 4 - Best Small Business entry

Class 5 – Judges favourite
