Bowood House & Gardens will take centre stage on national television tonight, as it features in the BBC’s Gardeners’ World Winter Special, airing on Friday 12th December.
The episode sees presenter Carol Klein visit the historic estate to explore how Bowood’s gardening team care for the grounds through the quieter winter months. Viewers will join Bowood’s Head Gardener for an insight into the seasonal work that keeps the gardens thriving year-round, from essential winter maintenance to the detailed planning that shapes the seasons ahead.

Bowood House & Gardens, set within sweeping Capability Brown parkland between Calne and Chippenham, has been the home of the Lansdowne family since the 18th century. Its formal terraces, woodland gardens and historic landscape draw thousands of visitors each year, making it one of Wiltshire’s best-known heritage estates.
Bowood said the programme highlights the “skill, stewardship and deep respect for the landscape” that underpin the estate’s horticultural work. The gardens attract visitors in every season, but the winter routine is typically less seen by the public, something the BBC special aims to bring to light.

For those who miss the initial broadcast, the episode will be repeated on Saturday 13th December at 8.55am and again on Thursday 18th December at 8am, and will also be available on BBC iPlayer.
Bowood House & Gardens said staff are “very excited to watch the episode” and hope local viewers will tune in. While the programme offers a behind-the-scenes look at the winter work that keeps the estate flourishing, the team added that “the true magic is felt when you step into the gardens yourself.”
