A six day search for a woman missing from Chippenham since Sunday has ended today in tragedy.

Police have confirmed they have found a body believed to be that of missing 51-year-old Fiona Edson who had last been seen leaving her home in Monkton Park, Chippenham on Sunday 25th June.

A police helicopter, police officers, specialist search officers, teams from Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and volunteers from Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (WiLSAR) have been conducting extensive searches between the Chippenham and Calne areas since Monday.

 

A statement released this afternoon, 1st July from a Wiltshire Police spokesperson reads: 

"We can confirm that a body has been found this afternoon (1/7) in the Calne area in the search for missing Chippenham woman Fiona Edson.
 
"Although formal identification has not yet taken place, Fiona's family have been updated regarding this development and are being supported by specialist officers. They have asked for privacy at this extremely difficult time. Our thoughts remain with Fiona's family and friends.
 
"Formal identification will take place in due course. Although it is early stages, we do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death."
