Sky gazers have been treated for the last two nights to not only a Perseid meteor shower but a spectacular display of the Northern lights.

After a strong geomagnetic storm in the early hours of Monday morning, the aurora has been seen in many places across the UK, including Wiltshire.

The Perseid meteor shower reached its peak, when up to 100 meteors an hour were visible in the night sky.

This beautiful image shows the Aurora Borealis appearing in the skies above Calne last night.

Paul O'Farrell Stevens captured this shot, he told us: "I finally managed to capture the Aurora last night from our garden in Calne, it was a beautiful evening of shooting stars, satellites and Aurora."
