THE A4 between Calne and Chippenham was closed this afternoon, 17th September due to a 'person in distress on the footbridge.
Emergency services were called to the incident at Millenium Bridge on the A4 early this afternoon.
Police closed the road at Black Dog Hill in both directions from Norley Lane to Bremhill Lane.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: "The A4 between Chippenham and Calne is currently closed in both directions following an ongoing incident on an overbridge.
Drivers should avoid the area and seek an alternative route whilst the incident is dealt with."
UPDATE: Just after 3pm, Calne Police updated their social media post to say the road is now re-opened.
