CALNE Springs Market is a craft, gift and produce event which takes place on the second Saturday of each month and more often on the run up to Christmas.
The market is a treasure trove of handcrafts, trinkets and unique gifts - making it the perfect opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done and at the same time support local independent businesses.

We popped down to the market recently to see what was on offer and meet some of the traders.

Susan's Crafts has a beautiful selection of paper gift boxes and luminaries.

Susan told us: "I have been crafting in Calne for 18 years.  I attend the Calne Craft and gift market most months and can usually be found outside Iceland with my fellow traders.

"My giftboxes range from a humble box to a teapot to a handbag to a camper van and pumpkin carriage and a whole lot more. Some of my pieces can be used as a Luminary after the gift giving. If it has windows, pop an electric tealight inside and use a nightlight for children or place on a desk or shelf.
"I change boxes with the seasons so there is a lot of variation throughout the year.

"Luminaries are rarely gift boxes. Such as my German 1980 inspired Christmas tree, which comes fully lit with a remote control timer and function switch"

Classic Blooms stall is simply stunning - lots of beautiful displays of fresh and artificial flowers and seasonal planters to choose from, alongside some lovely handmade candles. Classic Blooms has been trading for five years and is owned by brother and sister Ann and Sam.

Sam told us: "We offer both fresh flower and artificial displays for all occasions along with real seasonal planted pots, and corporate/office displays, so we are a little different from the usual florist.

"We aren't a "middle person" taking orders and all are displays are handmade by us and to your wishes.  Sam has over 20 years experience in the artificial flower market while Ann has 10 years experience in the fresh flower market hence why we started our business and we love it!"

Ann and Sam will also be running some Christmas Wreath Making workshops at Calne Springs Showroom in Beversbrook in December - all equipment and materials are supplied and afterwards you can bask in the beauty of your finished whilst enjoying refreshments and a mince pie - all for just £40, for more information visit their Facebook page by clicking the name above.

At Snooty Fox and Kim's Krafts and Gifts you will be spoiled for choice. If  you are looking for something different this Christmas, you will find it here.

Snooty Fox was owned by Kim's son, selling gorgeous doorstops in animal designs. Kim started making her craft items during lockdown and soon had requests for bespoke cushions and other items. Just over 18 months ago, Kim's son suggested she take over his stall and sell her items alongside the doorstops.

Kim said: "I sell character doorstops and gonks (gnomes) and I make and sell craft items such as cushions, bunting, pencil cases, bags, etc. I also take orders to produce items if a customer requires something specific. At Christmas and other times of the year I offer seasonal items accordingly.

"Every year I intend to have a stall at every Calne Springs Market, and we also attend other local events like steam rallies and car shows around Wiltshire. Customers can also find my items for sale on our Snooty Fox/Kim's Krafts Facebook page."

Designed By Yvonne is a lovely stall with a lovely story behind it. Owner, Yvonne's business started as a hobby, making jewellery for her granddaughter, soon she had people asking for bracelets and necklaces. Selling her dvd and book collection to fund the enterprise, Designed By Yvonne was formed in September 2013.

As well as jewellery, and some truly unique Steampunk inspired items, you will have probably noticed a lovely collection of bottle lights on the stall.
Yvonne told us: "Although I still make jewellery, I'm not able to do as much because of my disability and illnesses (I was bed bound for 3 years before starting my little hobby) I have moved onto recycling and designing bottle lights but still make childrens bracelets.

"I have been at Calne Springs Market for 6 years now and have met some lovely stall holders, and customer's.....my hubby is one of the volunteers who helps put the gazebo's up and down for us.
"I also go to steam rallies such as Heddington....designing unusual one off pieces are my favourite ...no two are ever the same. "

The ever popular Calne Pockets is a must-visit at the market.
Perfect for pocket money purchases and stocking fillers. Calne Pockets sells a great selection of keychains, bags, hair accessories, squishies, stationary and crystals to name but a few.

Jennie and Laura told us "We are mother and daughter duo who regularly attend the Calne Spring Markets.

"We love the atmosphere and love seeing all the smiles from the local children who tell us we are 'the bestest stall ever'."

Witches Valley

Witches Valley sell bath bombs, soaps and balms, using only plant based oils and waxes that are cruelty free.

The selection of bath bombs is a joy to behold, our favourites are the Witches Element Crystal Surprise bomb and the Unicorn Farts Bomb, both contain a crystal in the middle adding an extra element of fun to bath times.

For those trying to do more for the planet, pick up a shampoo bar, they smell divine and no plastic waste!

Gingerbread hand balms and bath bomb gift sets would make the perfect presents and stocking fillers too.

**********

These were the stalls that were at the market on the day we happened to visit but there are many other stalls who pop up at Calne Springs so it is well worth a visit, not only does it give you an opportunity to buy something truly unique, it gives you the chance to support local business and shop local.

While you are looking at the market, don't forget to pop in to the shops who are there for you 6 days a week - with 2 hours free parking every day in Church Street funded by Calne Town Council.

The next market takes place on 26th November.
