As no doubt many of you are aware, the A3102 Greenacre way, between the A4 and Honeysuckle Close, and the Beversbrook Road stretch between Stainer Road and Oxford Road, have a particular issue with regards to subsidence. I have been in contact with Highways at Wiltshire Council about this issue.
The subsidence is down to the clay forming the road base, stretching and cracking in the heat, and then expanding with the rain. This has left the ground subsiding underneath the top surface.
Wiltshire Councils Major Maintenance Team are aware of the issue and a site meeting has been arranged with Atkins, to be held at the end of September, or early October, to determine what can be done to resolve the issues. This is a similar issue to what has happened on Newbury Avenue, albeit on a much larger scale.
This is not going to be a quick fix and any works at this location will have to take into consideration that this is currently an active diversion route for the closure of the B4069 Lyneham Banks, due to the landslip. As you may have read the B4069 is going to be closed for some considerable time.
This may mean that we will have to live with the problems on the A3102 for a while longer. Wiltshire Council has stated that they will put up Uneven Road Signs, and I would recommend that drivers consider the condition of the road surface and choose a speed suitable for its current condition, as Rule 125 of the Highway Code recommends.
