CALNE Firefighter and all-round local hero, Russell Crocker is celebrating finishing his latest fund raising challenge for the MND Association.

Earlier this month, Russell cycled from London to Amsterdam in a bid to raise as much money as he could for the MND Association, a cause close to his family's heart.

Russell's brother, Richard was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2020 after experiencing symptoms for over a year. Motor neurone disease (MND) is an uncommon condition that affects the brain and nerves. It causes weakness that gets worse over time. There's no cure for MND, but there are treatments to help reduce the impact it has on a person's daily life.

Last year, Russell completed a 315 mile ride to Paris, this year he took on a 335 mile challenge from London to Amsterdam.

Russell commented: "London to Paris 2023 and London to Amsterdam 2024 were the two hardest things I have ever done rasing much needed funds for the MNDA, a charity that means so much to me and my family for the help and support they have given us whilst my brother lives with this terrible and unforgiving disease, hopefully the money raised will help in finding a cure."

Over the two challenges he has cycled a staggering 687.34 miles and raised £10,916. He added " I'm completely overwhelmed with the amount rasied."

Russell is planning to take a break in 2025 but is already planning a return for another challenge in 2026.
