Calne's very own member of the British Snowboard Cross Team, Gary Bartlett, will be representing Britain again this weekend at the International Snowboard Cross Competition in Dolni Morava in the Czech Republic.
Former JBS student Gary Bartlett grew up in Calne and is a fully qualified GP. In 2015 he successfully turned a passion for snowboarding into a sporting career when he earned a place on the British Snowboard Cross team. Snowboard cross events are freestyle downhill races involving four to six competitors on courses made up of a number of jumps and obstacles.
Gary now spends his winters (October until April ) living in the Austrian Alps as he trains and competes for Great Britain in Snowboarding. He told Calne News: "I was born and raised in Calne and went to John Bentley School. My family live in Calne and during the summer, I work as a GP and do a lot of work in Calne serving the health needs of the local community."
This weekend will see him competing in the Czech Republic followed by a competiton on 2nd of April which is the British Championships in Laax, Switzerland.
