Two teenage boys have been arrested following a police pursuit from Chippenham to Lacock.
Shortly after midnight on August 24, specialist operations officers noticed a Ford Mondeo near Bumper’s Farm on the A350 which was believed to be linked to a number of thefts of fuel in the area.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver made off from officers along Hungerdown Lane.
A pursuit ensued and the driver of the vehicle was seen to go the wrong way around a roundabout.
A stinger was deployed by local Community Policing Team officers near Lacock and the vehicle was successfully stopped in Mons Lane.
A 16-year-old boy from the Chippenham area was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, theft of fuel and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
An 18-year-old boy also from the Chippenham area was arrested on suspicion of theft of fuel and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
Both were taken to Gablecross custody for further questioning and have since been released under investigation while further enquiries continue.
PC Barry Geering said: “Driving in this manner not only puts you and your passenger in danger, but also puts other road users and pedestrians at risk of serious injury or worse.
“I’d urge anyone who witnessed this vehicle being driven through Chippenham shortly after midnight on Saturday to get in touch via 101, as you may have information, or footage from a dash cam that could assist our investigation.”
