Police arrested a man on the A4 in Marlborough yesterday on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Police sign on carAt approximately 1pm on Monday 10 June, they received a report of a man acting suspiciously in the area.

Plain clothes officers attended and located a man who was stop searched and found to be in possession of approximately 40 bags of suspected class A drugs believed to be cocaine, £100 cash and a mobile phone.

The man attempted to escape from officers, but was detained and arrested.

The 27-year-old from London was taken to custody at Gablecross for further questioning. He was later released under investigation in relation to the drug offence and further arrested on suspicion of immigration offences, for which he was released on conditional bail.

A/Insp Pete Foster said: "This is yet another example of how important information from the community is. We rely on the public being our eyes and ears - unfortunately, we do not have resources to be on every street corner at any one time, so the public play an important role in helping to keep our communities safe.

"We will act on information that we receive, and I am pleased that this has led to a successful arrest.

"I'd encourage anyone who suspects drug activity in their neighbourhood to report it to us on 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress."
