Consumers are being warned to take caution when opening bottles of Coca-Cola following an urgent recall of their 1.5 litre PET bottles.

coke recallThe warning states that the bottles may have damaged neck rings, which means it may have a sharp rim edge which could present a safety risk on opening.

In a statement the company said: "The bottle neck ring might have a sharp and uneven rim edge which could present a safety risk on opening."

A spokesman for the company said: "As a precaution, you should examine the bottle neck ring carefully before opening.

"If you see damage to the bottle neck ring, open the bottle with care and ensure that your hand is placed on the cap and above the bottle neck when opening the bottle."
